Matzoh Ball soup in the East Village

With Second Avenue deli closed, where are some places with good matzoh ball soup in the east village?

  1. B & H, but it's vegetable stock based.

    1. Sadly, B&H only serve matzoh ball soup on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

      1. The matzoh ball soup at Katz's was decent the last times I tried it, but I seldom get it, because when I'm done with a pastrami sandwich, some half sours, and perhaps a small cole slaw, I'm full!

I don't know if they still do it, but Katz's used to have a half sandwich/bowl of soup special- it's the only way to get a half sandwich there. The matzoh ball soup there is pretty good.

I am certain they will do the half sandwich/soup combo if you get waiter service. YMMV if you go to a counter man.

I know I've gotten it at the counter before- might be a good idea to hit the sandwich counterman closest to the front, where the soup is (there used to be a small sign up right at this location). Not right up front where the hot dogs are.

        2. B&H vegetarian soup base-have with the best challah from B&H as well- enjoy
