Does Anyplace Do Good Cornmeal Pancakes?

  • 4

I was in New England a couple of months back, and got to try a place in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, called Polly's Pancake Parlor (http://www.pollyspancakeparlor.com/me... ). This place was excellent, but the thing that most impressed me were the cornmeal pancakes. They were light, and slightly sweet with a great cornmeal flavor, and had a wonderful crispness to them. In an weird sort of way, they made me feel like I was eating the pancake analog of a Florentine cookie. (Does that make any sense at all?) I'm a fan of the OPH, and I love their apple pancakes, but their cornmeal pancakes don't seem to have that wonderful sweet/crispy thing going on.

Anyway (and if you can figure out what the hell I'm talking about) is there anyplace local (say within the geographic area covered by this board) that makes this kind of cornmeal pancake?

  1. Here's a thread on Johnnycakes that should help you -- that's what the ones in the northeast are generally called. The ones at Dish in La Canada are said to be good, as well as the malted cornmeal pancakes with blueberries at Doughboys.

        1. Not exactly what you are looking for but the Peach Cafe in Monrovia does a nice waffle with cornmeal:
