Where can I have dinner with my family near the Home Depot Center on Saturday night?
I used to have season tickets for the LA Galaxy and frequently ate before/after matches near the HDC.
My favorite nearby spot is El Rocoto, a Peruvian restaurant on Artesia Blvd. between Normandie and Vermont. Pollo a la Brasa in Gardena on Vermont Blvd. (at Gardena Blvd.) has excellent Peruvian chicken grilled over a wood fire, but it's more of a takeout place and is a bit divey. Both are good options if you plan on eating before the event.
Long Beach isn't that far away, especially the downtown area because you can zip straight there on the 710. I liked to go to La Creperie Cafe on 2nd St. in Long Beach after matches - it's just a straight shot down Ocean to 2nd. Any place in Long Beach along 2nd St. or downtown is only a few minutes drive (maybe 15 tops) to the HDC.
hbgrrl, I'm assuming you're coming from Huntington Beach via the 405. You might consider the 605 -> 105 and hit La Huasteca in Lynwood. Excellent regional Mexican food, nice looking room, my choice for "nice" in this area unless you want to head further west into Gardena.
Here's an old writeup on my blog:
Also, getting to the HDC parking lot from that direction seems to be less of a nightmare.
Try Musha ,a japanese "pub" on the corner of Carson and Western ....you may have to wait but it won't be for long ...very hip and fun ,all sorts of food in a japanese tapas style/small plate way. There are other wonderful japanese restaurants on this corner
Depot in old town Torrance is really good, make a reservation ....Red Car Brewery is close by....if you eat early and then drive on surface streets you are quite close to the Home Depot Center.
Yeah, this is tough, I go there a lot and the only place I've had dinner while there was the stadium club (not bad but no fun, I don't really recommend it). Chang's in MB is a good suggestion, and there are a couple other upscale chain places over there too by Chang's.
Some regulars from the soccer crowd use a place called Red Car Brewery in Torrance and say it's a fun scene but I've never been there. If you need to be closer to HDC, you can look on 190th (Victoria) just west of the 110, there are a couple office buildings there that have spawned some development but I can't name specifics.
Ugh, that's a tough one, as the HDC is in Carson. When I went there with a bunch of friends and family for a Dave Matthews Band show a few years ago, we went to PF Chang's in Manhattan Beach beforehand, only because my out-of-town friends love PF Chang's (I think it's just okay.)
I think the South Bay is closer to the HDC than Long Beach is. Maybe if you seek out the best restaurants in the South Bay you'll get some responses. Good luck!
