Need to get a gift certificate to East Bay restaurant

Any suggestions? Really good food (any type) in a nice but not fancy atmosphere. For 2 twenty somethings who like to eat, and are adventurous eaters, but don't like to dress up. I live on the east coast and have no idea where to begin. Obviously the restaurant must sell gift certificates (and over the phone or online at that) Thanks in advance!

People in the East Bay wear whatever they want anywhere, so that's not much of a concern. These topics might help:

Depends on how much you want to spend, but I'd say Chez Panisse. It's the best restaurant in the East Bay, and if they're young and into food they have probably fantasized about eating there.

For $250 you can treat them to a five course meal downstairs they will never forget, at the only four star restaurant where you can wear jeans. If that's too spendy, for $125 you can treat them to a fantastic dinner at the Cafe upstairs, or a three course, Monday night dinner at the restaurant downstairs.

Citron in Oakland (Rockridge) is great!

The only detailed dinner report I find from the past year wasn't enthusiastic:
