Cafe Botanica

Had dinner at Cafe Botanica on Satyrday evening. It is lcated within the grounds of Snug Harbor on Staten iland and it was fantastic! Their menu is a three course prix fixe for $42.50 a person. My husband started with seared scallops on a bed of beet risotto, followed by braised short ribs with a mini cheese souffle - pumpkin sorbet for dessert. I started with a salad with candied walnuts and maytag blue cheese with the most delicious lemony dressing. My main was a cider glazed pork chop with spaetzle, braised red cabbage and wild mushrooms. My sweet was an apple/walnut tarte tartin. The dining room is small, quiet and gorgeous (red walls, crackling fireplace) and the service was totally professional - elegant without being stuffy.

Really, if I could go back tomorrow, I would. In fact, Cafe Botanica might be edging out Aesop's Table as my favorite Staten Island restaurant.

  1. I was there in the warm weather for brunch and it was perfect, except that the service (or perhaps it was the kitchen) was totally over-whelmed. Brunch took over three hours, which even with the paper, seemed too long.
