Another website where you can order all sorts of Cincy products: http://www.cincinnati-to-you.com/?gcl...
my parents are from Cincy, and my mother's family still lives there... they bring/send me the Cincinnati chili mix packs quite often. I think it's an acquired taste, it took a couple of tries to get my Brooklyn-born-and-raised husband to like it... now he loves it... sadly on the southern flip of the coin, I fear he'll never be turned to liking grits. : (
I made 3-ways earlier this week : )

Thanks for the link. That photo of the hunk of chocolate is for real! They're like iceburgs sitting in the middle of each pint.
My friend used to drive back dry-ice-packed pints whenever she went to Cincinnati. Mr. Graeter (probably 2nd or 3rd generation) would help load the huge boxes of deliciousness into her truck. Talk about home-grown!

re: yumyumyogi
I had a great uncle who was like a VP at Graeter's many many years ago, I remember as a young girl visiting there, he'd take us to the factory and we got to taste stuff, it was kinda like Willy Wonka... it was great!
A few years ago for Christmas with my family in NC, I ordered a 12-pack of Grater's pints from the website for everyone, they were all so happy and I think we all got stomach aches from eating so much of it.

There are two places that I know of to get Skyline Chili in the city.
1. Edward's, 136 W. Broadway, 212.233.6436
Once a month Edward's hosts Cincinnati night. They serve Skyline Chili (ala 3-way, 4-way, 5-way, and Coneys), Montgomery Inn Ribs with Saratoga Chips, LaRosa's Pizza and, most importantly, Graeter's Ice Cream. The Skyline isn't the exact same - in fact the Coneys may be better with this higher quality hot dog - but if you've got a craving, it does the trick. Call ahead for reservations since they do fixed seatings on Cincinnati night.2. There is a new Cincinnati Bengals bar in town this year. Phebe's Tavern & Grill (359 Bowery at 4th Street). Every Sunday (or Bengals Game Day) Bengals fans take over the bar. After each Bengals touchdown, they sing the fight song...and the bar has graciously started to serve Skyline Chili. They only serve 3-ways though and the cheese and spaghetti aren't exactly the same. But again, if you've got a craving...
I personally don't care for Cincinnati style chili but it is fun to have a little bit of home in the city.

re: yumyumyogi
I recently went to Edward's for their Cincinnati Chili night. We had to sit at the bar because it was so crowded - but the chili was so very good. It was a bit sweet (just a bit - not overly) - and served over spaghetti. The bartender saved us the black raspberry chip ice cream because he said that they run out very quickly. It was a really fun night with delicious chili and ice cream. Highly recommended!!

re: Briek
Thanks for the report! I called them last night and made a reservation for my Cincinnati expat friend and myself for the next event. Just curious, what time did you go? I'm a bit nervous about the black raspberry chip running out...
Gee, if it wasn't for CH, I'd feel a little crazy by now.

re: yumyumyogi
Report:
Just got back from Edward's Cincinnati night. We tried a little of everything - the skyline chili 4-way, cheese coneys, the ribs, and of course Graeter's ice cream. Though the chili wasn't out of this world, it was really fun to eat - more like spaghetti with chilli rather than the other way around. I'll definitely order it again. I will do without the Coneys next time - the overall texture was too soft and soggy. Soft bun, soft dog, soft cheese. I could've had a little crunch somewhere. And the ribs? Eh...
The Graeter's black raspberry chip and mint chocolate chip, on the other hand, was all that and then some! The only misfortune was the largest chip I found was only about 1/2" big.
We already made reservations for the next Cincy night next month!

My brother lives in Cincinnatti but because of diet never has eaten at either of the 2 brands locations. On our last visit, I decided I had to taste it-so much hoopla! Feh! It reminded my wife and me of really soggy spaghetti upon which jarred spaghetti sauce with meat had been crowned. Are we missing something here?
