Early dinner before Islanders game at Nassau Coliseum?
Hi - we'll be a large group with kids. Can anyone recommend a fun, reasonable place where we can grab a decent meal before the hockey game? (Two fussy foodies and two teenagers in tow.)
Runyons is closed. The mall is not far & you can get anything around there - Fridays, Cheesecake Factory. Something different to try may be Grand Lux or for a cheaper option the Majestic Dinner has great great food.

Right up front I'll let you know, I've never been to this particular spot--but, I always hear (and read on this board) that Runyon's on Hempstead Tpke, near the hospital, but on the other side of the road, is very good for burgers and the like.
Sweeney's in GC village is good and they do the whole kids crayon thing, etc. The food is reliable, they have a kids menu and good adult choices too. Their marinated skirt steak is very good. It's on Franklin, right next to the Post Office.
There are also a lot of chain restaurants near Merchants Concourse. But, I'm not a chain person, so I can't comment.
I would say stay away from Borrelli's on Hempstead Tpke., (immediately east of the Meadowbrook). It's been there forever, but it's not all that inexpensive and the food is seriously sub-par. Their pizza is not even very good.
I am in total agreeement with JGS. My first choice is Runyons. The burgers are good and the menu has enough options to fit your requirements. Big plus, it's really close to the col. I'm also not big on chains but if your so inclined the ones on Merrick Ave. North of the Tpke. are alot closer. Don't get me started on Borrelli's. Yuk.
