Bagels in Benicia/Vallejo

Is there anyplace in the Benicia/Vallejo/Fairfield area to get good bagels? I hate driving to the Pinole or Walnut Creek Noah's - please help me find something better and closer!

Thanks

I did try Lara's - it was okay, but there wasn't much to distinguish it from a Safeway bagel, though the spreads were a slight cut above average.

In any case, Lara's has gone by the wayside. You might want to try Georgina's (1515 Tennessee) for something slightly different bagel-wise, though I think the scones are a much better deal there.

Well, gee, I was trying to find the name of the bagel joint in Benicia and I came across this ...

Lara's Market (Mexican Grocery) Bagels & Hot Coffee
      448 Georgia St
      Vallejo

      Hours: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m
      Monday to Saturday; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday

      Phone: 552-1187

      Who knew?

Here's a newspaper review of the place and I know it is still in business because it got a recent enthusiastic mention on Yelp ... for the bagels and smears ... I tell you, who would have guessed? Only the cached version is available.

A back-up is ... and don't laugh ... Safeway. I did a bagel tasting and surprisingly Safeway came out better than some bagel shops. This was the Marin Safeway, so don't know if that applies to all Safeways. Marin seems to have a higher bagel standard than most of the Bay Area. Raley's bagels on the other hand ... feh. It seemed to me there was a place that sold bagels near the Benicia Raley's but I'm not coming up with a name.

Hope someone will give Lara's a try and report back.

There's a Noah's in Pinole? Probably in the shopping center, right?

The Noah's in Pinole is off Appian Way, on the first big street east of the freeway, in a strip mall. There's an Albertsons next door. Sorry I can't give you better directions.
