Well, sugar cane rum right...thought the standard was muddled limes, sugar, ice, and cachaca...very strong drink. Possible alternative..mojitos...garnished with a piece of sugarcane.

Caipirinhas can vary by just changing the fruit. A tangerine caipirinha is great. I also was really surprised by a Jalapeno caipirinha, you get waves of contrasting sensations.

Jalapeno Caipirinha
In a double old fashion glass....Muddle:
3/4 fresh lime, quartered
1/2 fresh jalapeno, seeded
1/2 oz. simple syrup
add:
ice
2 ounces cachaça
shake

Tangerine caipirinha
In a double old fashion glass....Muddle:
1/2 fresh tangerine, quartered
1/2 oz. simple syrup
add:
ice
2 ounces cachaça
shake
