Alex on vacation, what now?
So, I did extensive research on Chowhound for the perfect fancy dinner in Vegas on December 12th, and Alex fit the bill; great looking tasting menu, wine parings, attentive but not stuffy service, and not a chef or restaurant we could easily eat at in the Bay Area (e.g. Michael Minna, Fleur de Lys). Then I called to make a reservation and turns out they're ON VACATION from 12/11 through 12/23. We're already doing Italian at Giorgio's for pre-Vegas marathon carbo-loading, Rosemary's for post-marathon celebration and 1/2 price wine, and The Great Moments Room for steak and kitch. But we also want a fancy, "I can't believe I ran 26.2 miles" meal in the Alex NOT Guy Savoy price range. Help?!?
December in Vegas is NOTORIOUSLY slow for the restaurant business. A lot of restaurants close down in the middle part of December due to lack of business. It's mostly the higher end restaurants that don't do a lot of covers. Picasso is a good alternative to Alex but, from what I understand, they will be closed at that time as well. Nothing is really coming to mind off the top of my head as far as tasting menu-style restaurants go but for a great meal you might try Tableau, Bradley Ogden, Nobhill, or even Alize. Alize might even offer a tasting menu but I'm not certain.
