OK, so thanks for helping out Robert and Stromboli! I was giving a presentation and wanted to demonstrate the power of the Chowhound community- and you came through once again. Before I went into my speech, I posted the topic above. By the time I finished, Robert had already posted..... it was great!
However, when I clicked over to the Schroeders website and the polka music came blaring out, they all started laughing and decided to stick to California food while they had a chance. I can't tell you how dissappointed I was to NOT be able to walk into Schroeder's with 35 German media people and break into a heavy polka with some Currywurst. I'm going to go check out Suppenkuche, as I've heard great things about it. Thanks once again for the help!

Schroeder's is one of the few places downtown that can often seat a party of 35 with no reservation.
It's a zoo on the nights with live polka bands. Funny last night's wasn't listed on the Web site.

Suppenkuche is probably the best food of the four German restauranst in SF, but Schroeder's is the only one with currywurst on the menu.

Well, it is too late for the OP, but I was thinking about other places too. Isn't currywurst just sausages in a curry sauce? I was thinking a call wouldn't hurt to see if another place could make it on request ... sausages ... curry sauce ... sounds easy enough.
It would be interesting if Tatum reported back on what the German visitors thought of Schroeder's.

well it's sausages in this sort of ketchup tomato sauce w/ curry powder over the mess or curry flavor in the sauce, or variations thereof. depends on where you go
