December 2006 cookbook threads?

Help, I'm eager to post! Are we going to post things under threads divvied up by chapters, as with the previous books? Is this a DIY effort (I'm willing to get something started if so, but have been holding off)?

I wanna talk about the Dorie Greenspan book!

  1. Gor for it! It's legal now that it's 12/1/06!

    Since I don't actually have the book on hand, and am cooking recipes from internet sources, I won't know in which chapter they belong.

    I'm waiting for word from our august leader!

      I just made the banana cake in bundt pan....nothing special....of the 2 recipes I tried (upside down cranberry is the other)
      One was not at all to my tastes and the other was nothing special....do I need to go for three strikes???

        If you do try one more, consider the Applesauce Spice Bars on page 117. Over on that other board where folks have been cooking from this book for about a month now, that's the one recipe that seems to get consistently excellent reviews. It's on my list.

          Try the Corniest Corn Muffins. I've made them twice now. The first time I can honestly say they were the best corn muffins I've ever had. The second time I was in a hurry and wasn't as careful with the mixing and they still came out really well.

          Sorry to hear you didn't care for the Cranberry Upside Down cake. I made it last Sunday to take to a meeting and everyone there adored the cake. I like it, but they all loved it.

          Stay away from the Salt & Pepper Cocoa Cookies, those did not work for me.

          eGullet in the Pastry forum. Dorie Greenspan herself has been participating in the thread. That particular thread is now 17 pages long. Many of the recipes have been tried and reported on and there are numerous pictures of final products, some of which looked very much like the book photos.

        2. Sorry, Smokey-- I was a little delayed getting the threads posted this month. They are all available now, so feel free to start chatting! It'll be interesting to see what the chowhounds have to add to all the web discussion of this new cookbook. Happy cooking--

            redwood2bay--I'm certainly grateful for all the work you put in collecting votes, soliciting opinions, creating these threads. I hope I came across as simply excited, not whiney, because it's not the way I meant it. Thanks for posting the threads, I've already started chatting!

              No problem! You didn't sound whiney at all, just excited. I'm sorry there was a slight delay this month... I'm just finding it hard to juggle everything right now. We spent most of November on the road, so I'm still catching up at home. But I'm looking forward to baking in December with the hounds.
