I just found out that Ghirardelli Chocolates has a factory outlet store in San Leandro. If you get the SF Chronicle paper there's a coupon in 11/29/06 food section for 20% off your next purchase.

Yes, I have been there--and when I asked, I was told that they had been there for a long time. (Silly me--I thought they has just opened!)
Used a coupon from a previous week and yes, the prices are a fraction of retail. I got a case of mint filled chocolate squares (144)and a case of citrus sunset (12 bars). With the coupon, all of that came to $18 + change.
They do have samples if you ask.

I often see Ghirardelli chocolate at Bargain Bank as well, even those yummy caramel-filled chocolate squares.

I forgot about that. I was living in San Leandro when they opened a few years ago. Definitely alot of great deals to be had. I think they also sold the factory rejects at a huge discount.

I went here Sat 12/9/06 to check it out. It's a small store that off on the left-hand side of the factory just passed the guard shack. Look for the flags hanging above the factory.
I bought 2 cases of chocolates that have 12 bags each for $20.
You can also buy individual pieces, 1 lb is $7. You can ask to try the different individual pieces, since I saw this one customer keep eating one after another after he asked.
They sell other holiday gift items, their hot chocolates, bars, etc.
Limited edition flavor candies: Peppermint Bark, Eggnog, & Cinnamon Spiced Almond.
