Rival oval 6 qt slow cooker-experiences?
When I was interested in purchasing mine I did a lot of research and I checked another message board that had a once a month cooking topic as part of their forum. As I recall more than half felt the thermostat feature was over rated and that hi,low and off were more than sufficient. Also, they didn't think the timing feature was that necessary either as applaince timers are rather affordable. Many responded to my queries with 'all the bells and whistles don't make a better crock pot'. Also, I work with a lot of soccer moms and when we have food events where everyone brings their crock pot they are all the basic rival hi/low model. I didn't get the 6 qt. but have the 3.5 and am really pleased with it. I'll definitely purchase the 6 qt basic style in the near future.
I have a Rival 6 quart and I feel certain the thermostat is off; things cook far too quickly. I have lifted the lid to find dried-out meat more than once.
Since I am too cheap to get a new one, I just add at least 30% more liquid than I would normally use and adjust from there.
