Can anyone suggest a wine company that ships wine gift baskets to Montreal?

Thanks in advance

  1. Setting aside grocery and convenience store wines (and setting aside is the best thing to do with them), only the SAQ, the provincial liquor board, is allowed to sell wine in Quebec.

Actually, some vineyards in Ontario and BC ship to Quebec. Vineland and Mission Hill come to mind.

Yes, though they're breaking the law in doing so. Burrowing Owl used to ship to Quebec; now they're refusing to. Your mentioning two wineries by name may help ensure they get a cease and desist letter too.

It bears mentioning that the SAQ delivers. What's not clear is whether the buyer needs to be in Quebec, or only the recipient (the online ordering system allows you to ship to a third party, greeting and all).

Of course, they don't ship "baskets" per se; everything will be in bubble wrap within cardboard boxes. The online selection is relatively thin, too.

But it may well be possible to use SAQ.com to send someone a boozy gift even if the sender is outside the province. Worth a try for the OP.

I know, 2711 different wines is pretty slim pickings.

There's lots of good stuff available for online ordering, and I use the service myself sometimes, but let's face it: 2711 products is *relatively* slim compared to the overall SAQ catalogue.

I'm not sure how many products the SAQ carries overall, but to take some potentially giftworthy examples: Sauternes available online: 18; total Sauternes: 168; total dessert wine online: 152; total dessert wine: 794.
