Looking for a fun and hip Westside Restaurant with phenomenal food...but not stuffy...

Hi, I am looking for a restaurant in the Westwood-Santa Monica-West L.A.-Brentwood area that has delicious food and a fun, lively scene...Any suggestions? We were thinking Katsu-ya in Brentwood, but I have heard mixed reviews on the food...

    Amen to that!

I recently took a friend to dinner at Literati II - no liquor, one entree and one salad per person, a single cup of coffee and the bill was $94. I didn't feel the food or the experience was worth that kind of money.

You know, I like the food at Joe's and Jiraffe, but I would certainly classify them as stuffy. Am I wrong here?

The Ivy in Santa Monica is fun. What about Buffalo Club? Or Viceroy?

Hal's is fun (food isn't spectacular, though).

Katsu-ya? I think you can do a lot better than that.

Jiraffe is definitely not stuffy and is definitely delicious - whether it's actually 'fun' - dunno, too busy eating.

Violet seems perfect for your needs!

I second the Beechwood suggestion above, and I like Primitivo on Abbot Kinney too.

Literati II fits your description to a T. Wilshire at Bundy. I love love love this place.

Nook bistro on Santa Monica boulevard. It's hidden in a nondescript strip mall, but it's all the things you describe.

Musha is definitely good, but I wouldn't call the scene lively or hip, necessarily. It's kind of hit-or-miss for ambiance in my experience.

Katsu-ya, the food should be good, I think it depends on what you order. But it's definitely the hippest restaurant I can think of on the westside, if by hip you mean people are glammed out.

I think Venice is your best bet for a cool vibe and great food. There are a bunch of places like Axe, Joes, Beachwood (is that still open?) that should satisfy that.

Hate to sound like a broken record but I gotta recommend Musha again! Its just such a cool restaurant with amazing food. Very good atmosphere and great, fun and interesting dishes. Here is a link to my previous post.
