Mat & Naddie's or Dick & Jenny's?

N.O.FoodFan Nov 28, 2006 06:14 PM

Hi all: my group of 6 will be in N.O soon. Dick & Jenny's takes no reservations. Someone referred me to Mat & Naddie's instead. Is Mat & Naddie's a good substitution or D & J's really worth braving the wait? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

Dick and Jenny's is worth the wait. Although they don't take reservations, you can make a same day walk-up reservation. Drop by around 5:30 and reserve a table for later that evening.

many thanks for the tip Frolic! We're staying in the Quarter with no car, but I may try to make it work somehow.

Easy one: Dick & Jenny's. M&N is okay, but I like D&J's much better.

I haven't eaten at Mat n Naddie's since pre-K, but we stopped in and looked at the menu-- the inside is all redone and looks great, and the menu looked really good. Assuming the food is the same quality as it was before, I would rate M&N's above D&J's. I think you would be happy either way, so see who is playing at Tip's (by D&J) or the Maple Leaf (by M&N) that night. :)

I'm with Celeste. Dick & Jenny's is one of my top 3 in N.O. and well worth the wait (they have a charming indoor patio with porch swings where you can get cocktails or wine). I ate there last week and the hostess told me they were changing to their winter menu the first week of December. I can't wait to go back and check out what they have in store!

this might be too late - but the clear winner is D&J!!!

we ate at M&N recently and were not wow'd. the soup (shrimp bisque) was very good - it had a seafood gumbo flavor to it - very rich, deep flavor. we had the mushroom cheesecake which was also good. then, we tried the bbq shrimp meal - it was SALTY! really just too much salt, too few shrimp and an overall disappointment.

i think this place would be much better if they refined their menu to less adventurous dishes.
