Blah Blah Blah Take Out At Gregoire Piedmont
My husband picked up 2 sandwiches and an order of fries on Saturday for our breaklunch.
One, a lamb concoction with a sauce on a nice roll, was pretty awful. It tasted like the lamb (or mutton) one gets in England. As my grandpa used to say "I can taste the wool."
The steak sandwich was good, but nothing special, and the steak was pretty skimpy.
The fries were okay, and I can't complain as they had to survive the drive home from Gregoires. Still pretty crispy, but a little tough. No fault of G, that.
Anyway, for a little more than $20 I was expecting better.
I'm sticking with our local taco truck when we want a quick take-out lunch from now on.
I'd give it another shot for dinner. Honestly they don't quite put the same imagination into the lunch dishes.
However, for lunch recently I had the Scallop & crab meat patty with garlic-lemon sauce on pantofolina. $7.25. Fantastic, but somewhat small. Fair price considering the quality.
Gregoire is my local crack dealer :)
So you ordered wrong and only spent $20 bucks and you got...
"a lamb concoction with a sauce on a nice roll"
"Still pretty crispy (fries) No fault of G".
Perfect french fries,if eaten fresh out of the oil.
(What french fry is going to survive your husbands 82 minute ride home?)
"The steak sandwich was good"
Cold or room temp lamb is something I avoid. Its gamey quality along with "less then liquid" fat makes for a very bad combo, IMO.
Lamb in a wrap can be "okay" at room temp if there's tahini, garlic aloli or something else to mix/cover it and it's sliced thinly. Still it's a tricky proposition and for me it at least has to be warm or you're asking for trouble.
I have noticed that Gregoire on Piedmont seems to be varying in consistency. I have eaten the gamut from super tasty to mediocre (but never terrible) food there. The fries have never disappointed, but I agree they get a little worse for the wear if taken home. I am glad they are now on Piedmont ave, but I hope they even out and have good food all the time.
