Hi fellow chowhounders, I'm looking for a good sushi place to go to for dinner tomorrow night, all help is greatly appreciated! ;)

  1. if in the yonge/eg area you will be, go to sushi rock cafe. there's really not much in the way of great sushi around there otherwise. edo at ave/eg is popular, and decent as well - a bit pricier however.

I second Sushi Rock Cafe. When I lived at Young/Eg I was there twice a week. Now THat I live in the Beaches I've had to cut that down to once every two weeks... But it's totally worth it

    2. Your best bet is Sono, about 2 blocks north of Eglinton on the west side of the street, down some steps. Good food and nice ambiance, with tables in what could be authentic-style (never been to Japan) private rooms with the paper walls. Always have had excellent service there. www.sonojapanese.com

If you're looking for something on the inexpensive side, Echo Sushi about 3 blocks south of Eg. is not bad.

      1. You could also try Ho-Shim (just North of the theatres). It is not bad and reasonable. As a plus they have brown-rice sushi. If you don't mind trekking West, there is a relatively new place called Sado Sushi between Bathurst and the Allen that is really wonderful. Edo at Eglinton just west of Avenue is always good. It is the most expensive of all the places noted in the above threads.

Er, ‘Sado Sushi’? Lol. Sounds like a painful name :D

        2. I'll second the Echo Sushi recommendation.

          1. I second Sado Sushi. Just a few minutes west of Yonge and Eg., worth the drive/bus ride.

Re the name, I was dismayed when I saw the restaurant sign go up a couple of months ago. On my first visit, I asked what "sado" means; turns out it's the name for the Japanese tea ceremony.

            1. Is Sado Sushi close by a TTC station at all?

It's about 2 blocks east of the Eglinton West subway station.

              2. I am not a fan of sushi rock at all! I would go to Blue Zen...

It is north of Y&E but only a 5 minute walk. One of the better in the lot.

                1. I've been to Sushi Rock and Echo Sushi and I prefer the latter. The sushi is better, and the cooked dishes are very good too.

                  1. sadly, this area (and pretty much our city) does not have such great sushi... sushi rock and all the others in yonge/eg are average at best (except i haven't tried blue zen), so it's really just a matter of which average one likes most... one of the best sushi places in toronto is sushi marche on queen east - very casual but fantastic on quality, taste and value. and still, even sushi marche does not compare to vancouver sushi. i realize the poster asked for yonge/eg, but anyway...

                    1. Hey everyone thanx for your replies! We ended up going to Sono sushi, the quality was alright (I had some pretty good rainbow rolls) but the private rooms?! How crazy is that!?! I'd go there again just for that. But now that I've read all your comments, my next pick would be Sado place, which despite the name sounds quite interesting :)
