I got a (12#) Sisel's turkey from Iowa Meat Farms this year, roasted it off yesterday for Thanksgiving and have to say it was NOT worth the price. I should have gotten a Diestel as usual. The Sisel's bird *was* moist and flavorful but it was incredibly TOUGH. It was tough in the way an old bird is tough and was much more suitable for stewing than for Thanksgiving roasting.

I'm stopping by IMF either today or tomorrow to talk to them about it because at over $2/lb, it definitely wasn't worth it and I am not a happy camper.

Ralph's was running a special earlier this week (may still be on), Prime Rib for $3.99/lb with a Ralph's card. I shoulda cooked that yesterday...........

Sorry to hear that. We had a Diestel (I think that's what I glimpsed on the wrapper) from Whole Foods and it was awesome.

Sisel's sells their own branded turkey as well as the Diestel and the tough old bird we had was not, unfortunately, a Diestel. I've only had good luck with Diestel turkey's, so live and learn.

Odd, I've always placed my order for turkeys at the meat counter and when I pick it up it has been a Diestel turkey. Did you pre-order? or just pick up. I wonder where the Sisel's bird is raised? Free range Tecolote Canyon. Once again, sorry to hear about your old bird.

Cheers

The turkey was preordered from Iowa Meat Farms, which in the past did not carry Diestel turkeys. I always had to drive out to Sisel's to get my Diestel. The wrapper on the turkey only said Sisel's, no mention of Distel.
