So What are people making tonight for Dinner?

Just curious as to what's on the menu for the night before......

  1. Mushroom soup and bread and a salad. Keeping it light!

    1. Peconic bay scallops, baked acorn squash, hand-picked wild rice!

      1. Rib steak, bone in and....???

        1. Chile Rellenos in tomato sauce... without the batter and non fried but topped with Jack Cheese... :)


          1. Goat cheese & potato frittata. was actually last night's dinner plan but due to a 70 minute train delay, we had pizza.

            2. Going to stick to lentils, green beans and some leftover turkey meatballs. Want to eat healthy before the debauchary begins...

                      You too! (only we'll be feasting on Wonton soup, dumplings, spring rolls, and beef ho fun. mmmm.)

                  2. Must. clean. out. the. fridge. MUST!! My parents are hosting Thanksgiving and promptly leaving town the next day, so ALL the leftovers will be heading to my house -- and I have no room! :-)

                    So we'll be eating whatever's left and must go.

                        1. I'm responsible of bringing my 'tarragon-stuffed eggs' for the Thanksgiving meal, so I suspect dinner tonight will be the extras with some toast (along with a nice bottle of wine). This not-very-nutritious-but-delicious meal will be followed by hot buttered popcorn and swedish fish at the movie theater.

                          1. Wild mushroom and goat cheese pizza.

                            1. Probably leftover fettucine and Bolognese sauce, courtesy of Marcella! Or tacos from a little home-owned fast food restaurant in my hometown; it depends on how prompt we are at leaving town!

                              1. Chinese take-out! We have a house full and I don't want to cook tonight. I made chili for lunch tomorrow. We don't have dinner until around 6.

                                1. Leftovers - also trying to clear out the fridge. We're having pork loin braised in tomatillo sauce from Bayless' Mexico OPAAT and couscous. All of it left over from earlier meals. I guess this is fusion night.

                                  1. I was tempted by some pumpkin tamales when I stopped today at the deli counter to pick up some pate for tomorrow. So I got two of those and then went by the fish counter for some red snapper. Going to crust that with some pumpkin seeds and make an ancho chile sauce and serve with a pumpkin tamale.

                                    I was originally planning to just make veggie burgers tonight but what the heck we'll start the holiday early!

                                    1. scallops, brown rice & broccoli - don't want to overeat the night before thanksgiving when i know we will overeat.

                                      1. Probably Chik-fil-a... I'm driving from Atlanta to Pensacola after work.

                                        1. Left-over chinese take-out from last night. Will p/u some additional to stretch it tho, eggrolls and soup.

                                          1. I'm doing pre-prep tonight, so something simple I can throw together while I'm doing other things. Since I have about 50 small bits of cheese cluttering up the fridge and some leftover ham, probably a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, maybe with some roasted red peppers. And when I'm done, I'm killing the bottle of Riesling in the fridge -- gotta make room! :-)

                                            1. Romaine salad w/Morningstar "Buffalo Wings" and Blue Cheese-fairly light ahead of tomorrow's feast!

                                              1. Pot of beans – Rancho Gordo's Yellow Indian Woman – with a scrape of hard cheese. Baby greens from the garden.

                                                1. We will have a house full tonite too, so I made something completly different than turkey. Pork braised in tomatoe sauce which is shredded and then served with pasta, a salad and garlic bread. Made it last nite, so flavors could develop--now today I had time to make all the do- aheads for tomorrow.

                                                  2. Mac and cheese. The oven is already hot and its a quick and easy meal.

                                                    I heard that take-out pizza is the most popular on the day before, but I have never ordered pizza before T-day.

                                                    1. A casual kitchen supper for friends is our long-standing tradition. Several choices -- a sort-of Ciopino, split pea w/ ham and tomato-red bell pepper. I'll include the no-knead bread. Fruit & cheese for dessert.

                                                      1. Grilled sharp cheddar on 7-grain, some leftover roast beets, brussels sprouts, local cider I think is finally hard enough.

                                                          Hamburgers on the grill, a few friends are coming over for the Spurs game. Oh, someone else is bringing chips and pico de gallo and a pot of borracho beans.

                                                          1. Made cole slaw and will pick up fried catfish, hush puppies, and french fries to complete the meal.

                                                            1. Dungeness crab! Saw them in the tank at the Chinese supermarket this morning (I'm in the SF Bay Area) and could not resist.

                                                              1. A new recipe from my Donna Hay mag. Chicken breasts spiced with cumin, coriander and chili powder on lemon rice with baby spinach leaves, topped with coriander yoghurt. Roast green beans on the side.

                                                                  1. We're having a Chinese banquet on Thanksgiving so I was trying to get away from that.
                                                                    Linguini with shrimp in a slightly creamy tomato sauce, sauteed asparagus.

                                                                    1. My family's tradition for the last 15-20 years (thanks to my stepfather) was meatloaf...easy to make, and for when we were traveling to their house in central PA (when Mom and he lived there) easy to pop into the oven whenever we got there after driving from MA.

                                                                      While he's gone these past 9 years, I'm still keeping up the tradition for myself - sorta. I'm having a meatloaf sandwich from leftover meatloaf I made this weekend. :-)

                                                                          1. I had the rest of the bottle of Cabernet from the Cabernet Cranberries that I made today! sheesh! Columbia Crest 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon tasted so nice! I NEED a good meal but really had....olives, cheese & crackers, pickles...I think I need to add buttered popcorn like someone else said further up the thread...don't I love popcorn...well, I'm baking pies right now...hope they come out alright! Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

                                                                            1. TURKEY! mixed rices & barley stuffing with Italian sausage, sage, apples. tomorrow, LEFTOVERS!

                                                                              I actually ordered a duck from Dine's Farms for tomorrow. Picked up the duck last night. thought it was damn heavy. Got home to find a duck and a 10-lb turkey in the bag. duck was frozen, but turkey was fresh so had to cook it!

                                                                              1. we ordered turkish- chicken yogurtlu, white beans w/ lamb, and turkish meatloaf. washed it down w/ belgian beer!

                                                                                1. I just finished a dinner of fried turkey liver and turkey heart! They were so delicious. I soaked them in milk 1st, then fried them in an incredibly hot pan w/ butter an olive oil and ate them with a big salad w/ arugula, carrot, mushroom, feta cheese. Don't think I've ever etaen turkey liver before, but I will again.

BTW, this is the 1st thanksgiving meal that I've hosted (rather than guested) in about 10 years and in the last week, the CH home cooking board has been an invaluable source of ideas, advice, inspiration, and humor.
                                                                                    This year, I'm giving thanks for Cowhound and all the wonderful posters who make up its (our) community.
                                                                                    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!.

                                                                                    1. Soup with base of Swanson's. Crumbled up some sausge later to be used for dressing, couple of leeks from CSA box, some canned tomatoes, small round pasta from that fancy pasta brand that comes in brown paper bag with rivets holding it together, some kale from CSA box. Sliced up the rest of the BitLaybread, brushed olive oil and garlic, sprinkled with parmesan, toasted. Served with the soup.

                                                                                      1. Tuna melts, but since I'm doing Turkey Day on Friday, I'll be doing something else simple tonight, too, TBD!

Mexican chicken meatballs in a zucchini & tomato chicken broth with lots of garlic, herbs and spices, rice, fresh mint and parsley...yummm! They're so light and delicious! My mom, aunt and I are collaborating.

                                                                                          1. Last night was loaded baked potato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, tonight is italian sausage and pepperoni strombolis with provolone, parm, and spicy tomato dipping sauce. I can't wait!

                                                                                            1. My TJ stir fry. Roasted broccoli, carrots and red bell pepper, then stir fry w sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, and shredded fried chicken. Mix in TJ thai red curry sauce and top w warm peanuts and fresh cilantro. Served over rice. Easy and soooo good.

                                                                                              1. baked salmon, salad, French bread...trying to eat light this week

We're leaving town soon, so I'm trying not to buy a lot of groceries or end up with too many leftovers. Tonight will probably be just grilled cheese and turkey (not Thanksgiving-related) sandwiches with some edamame. And I have oatmeal-cranberry bars (from Moosewood Desserts) I made last night for dessert.

                                                                                                  I just realized this question was probably originally post-Thanksgiving meal specific. Oops!

                                                                                                    1. Spaghetti Aglio e Olio with a ton of shaved Pecorino Romano (and probably more pumpkin pie if I can even stomach the thought of it)

                                                                                                      1. Made a delicious Mulligatawny Soup with the turkey stock from the Thanksgiving turkey. The basic recipe was Madhur Jaffrey's Vegetable Mulligatawny Soup (obviously not vegetarian) and then I added this and that from my pantry/fridge/spice cabinet.
                                                                                                        Just the right amount of spice.

                                                                                                        1. Black Forest Ham that didn't get used over the holiday. I made a glaze with maple syrup, brown sugar and a spicy cajun seasoning mix stirred in. Also having chanterelle, pine nut risotto and green peas. Alas, the peas came from the freezer.

                                                                                                          1. I know this for the dinner pre T-day, but heck I wanna chime in too...so...Beanie Weanie's and rolls.

                                                                                                            1. grilled strip steaks with nothin but salt, pepper, and a ton of garlic

                                                                                                              1. Meat tortellini in a simple tomato broth, with eggplant parmesan from Iavarone's on the side.

                                                                                                                1. Poached snapper with tomatoes, onions and a cream sauce.

                                                                                                                  1. I'm finally getting around to the Mexico One Plate at a time assignment... Snapper en Escabeche!
