Boca Chica?

We are looking for a place for dinner for a group of 6 and a friend recommended Boca Chica in the East Village. We aren't finding much on the boards about it -- and we don't want to go unless it is tasty. Any recent experience or opinions please.

It's a reliable place for relatively cheap pan-Latino eats and strong drinks with a fun party vibe, good for 20 somethings. I don't know if I've just gotten pickier over the years and didn't find the food as good the last time around, but definitely edible.

It's pretty iffy, in our experience. We wrote about it several months ago and have been back once (to the same effect).

I went once, maybe 4 years ago. Food was the quintessence of mediocrity, and it was one of the noisiest places I've ever been to.

if you want pan-latin in the east village/alphabet city area, then i highly recommend esperanto on the corner of avenue c and 9th street.

I've been an Esperanto fan for years. Excellent food, great mojitos & caipirinhas, reasonable prices, friendly staff, fun vibe, and excellent music on many nights.

I went a long time ago - it was ok, but nothing really worth schlepping for. That nabe has a lot of fun stuff, so I can't really see making the effort for it. There used to be a great little Cajun place across the street from it, but I think they've been closed for quite some time now.

Ok food - but bring a megaphone with you - it's one of the loudest joints in town.
