Cheese Curds, where do I find Cheese Curds? In LA

I've been sent on a mission by a friend, who is aware of my ability to find things (in some instances) and she wants me to find some cheese curds.

Now I know I can go to Wisconsin and get them no problem, but here in Los Angeles where do I get squeaky cheese curds?

  1. I have seen cheese curds at the farmer's market at the VA on Wilshire on Thursday afternoons. The woman who sells cheese there has about 25-30 different kinds of cheese and she let me try a few different types of curd. Never had them before, they were pretty good.

    1. Is someone on the hunt for some POUTINE?

I know Dusty's on Sunset serves Poutine. I've never had it, but know it's there. I think the owner is from Montreal.

You can get poutine at the Canadian Cafe in Monrovia:

Maybe they can tell you where they get their cheese curds. Check out their other Canadian treat: nanaimo bars, butter tarts, and real peameal bacon. Yum!

I've had poutine only once, in Montreal, and I think Canadian Cafe's compares favorably. French fries, fairly flavorful gravy (not pasty at all), lots of gooey melty cheese curds -- what could be better?

          2. I've seen them in the cheese section of Whole Foods also, but haven't tried them there and can't vouch for their freshness.

I'd go with the farmers market rec, but at least you know they're at WF if you can't reach a farmers market.

            1. I've seen them at the Pasadena Farmers Market. But they didn't squeak. Squeakiness demands extreme freshness.

I don't think that the guy at the Pasadena FM has them. The lady who sold cheese there before had them and they were goooood!! ;-)
Every time I go to Wisconsin to visit my bro I havve to have them.

I definitely bought curds at the Pasadena market this summer. I haven't checked in a couple of months - the cheeses aren't my favorite, although the guy does occasionally sell a cultured butter that I like.

              2. I've seen them at the farmer's market in Torrance.
