Splash out dinner for two on $200
A friend is treating me to dinner and our budget is $200 (including wine, tax and tip.) We'd rather splash out at a medium priced restaurant than watch our pennies at a higher-level establishment. Any suggestions, preferably in SF? Anyone been to Bar Tartine lately? Also, we want to try something new to us so not Delfina (which we love) or Zuni (ditto) and Canteen is booked.

Mrs. Mousse and I recently shared a wonderful anniversary dinner at Incanto. A four course meal for two with wine (by the glass), tax and a generous tip came in under $150. If you spent $200/two, you could enjoy an incredible bottle of wine and have plenty of money to splurge on a cheese course. I highly recommend Jed as a server.

re: Morton the Mousse
I second (or third) Incanto. I went for my birthday in September and had a fabulous time. Food was spectacular (we had the pork shoulder, lamb neck, handkerchief pasta), wine was divine, and service was great, too. You can definitely have a fine meal and wine for $200 or less. Tables are a bit close together, but it doesn't sound from your posting that you're seeking a romantic tete-a-tete.
I went to Bar Tartine only once, but was not impressed enough to return.

Second Aziza - two people sharing the tasting menu (at $39 each) still leaves room to buy some great cocktails.

re: Morton the Mousse
yes, I have noticed a price rise, but as you say, still well within the OPs restraints. I think the tasting menu is just too much food, but my last dinner there we had cocktails, a bottle of wine, two apps, two mains, one dessert, one after dinner drink, and one tea, and with tax and tip it was about $150...
