Davenport/Bettendorf , IA for Boston Chowhound

  • 4

I'm going to a family event in Davenport, and have fond memories of the old time places like MaidRite, Happy Joes, and the places in the and the burrito place in The Villiage, but has anything CHANGED in the Quad Cities - Is there any thing new? We used to go to the country club all the time too...

  1. There are some better restaurants here now than those.

My favorites include the Red Crow Grille in Bettendorf (fairly expensive) and the Faithful Pilot in LeClaire (small room, great river view, good food).

There is actually a very good sushi restaurant called Shogun at the intersection of Brady St. and Kimberly Road in Davenport. Try the Iowa City roll.

Centro in downtown Davenport has a nice atmosphere, but the food is a little over-rated. For Italian, I actually prefer Trattoria Tiramasu in Bettendorf, although it's location in a former BBQ rib joint leaves a bit to be desired atmospherically.

I also really like Pasteurs for Vietnamese. They have a few French-Asian mixed dishes that are good. It's on 16th St. in Moline.

For bar-fare, you can't go wrong with the ribs at the Circle Tap on Locust Street in Davenport.

The best Reuben Sandwich in town is at the Bier Stube - they have locations in both downtown Moline and the Village of East Davenport.

Shogun was a good japanese option in Davenport. I am not sure that I would highly recommend it, but if you are here for awhile it will satisfy your sushi needs.

    2. Don;t forget the Faithful Pilot just a few minutes up the road in Le Claire. Tasty food in a pleasant room, right on the river. Best restaurant by a dam site.

I live in Princeton, Iowa, about 10 miles northeast of LeClaire. There is nothing special about anything in LeClaire. My husband and I have eaten at the "fancy" places in LeClaire (Faithful Pilot and Steventon's) and were less than impressed by both. LeClaire's "charm" lies solely in its atmosphere and view of the river. Its restaurants feel no need to serve decent food in hopes that you will be distracted by the charming views.

For great prime rib, we like to go to T.C.'s Point After in DeWitt, Iowa. Yes, it's a hole-in-the-wall bar, but it's in those types of places you're going to find the best food in the area. Another one of our favorites is Granite City. It's a chain, but we've had consistently good experiences there. The wait can be kind of long, though.
