Early breakfast + quick lunch, Berkeley on Saturday

pane Nov 17, 2006 03:14 PM

Tomorrow I am taking an all-day class at the First Presbyterian Church on Dana at Channing in Berkeley. The class starts early and has a one hour break for lunch.

Where can I pick up a delicious pre-9 a.m. breakfast (such as a pastry and tea) and get a quick but equally delightful lunch? I'm BARTing there.

Thanks!

For a quick lunch I'd go to The Patio (on Dwight just East of Telegraph). FOr something more leisurely and gourmet, Adagia (Bancroft and College). You should be able to do Adagia in under an hour.

I'd recommend the Berkeley Cheeseboard for great scones and muffins. They also serve coffee. I personally love their pizzas as well - organic, veggetarian pizzas on a thin crust. (http://cheeseboardcollective.coop/ind...)

The Cheese Board might not be a good fit for this request as it's half a mile in the opposite direction.

Could we get an update on The Patio? Neither of the two phone numbers I had for them ring there.

Is that the building where Athithi used to be?

It was open last night but I haven't gone in for a while.

Shanghai Restaurant and Top Dog are both on Durant between Telegraph and Bowditch.

Here's a fairly exhaustive treatment of the lunch options in the area:

There's a Peet's at 2255 Shattuck, two blocks from the main BART entrance. Opens at 7am.

I think the new Peet's on Dwight and Tele is open now. It would be a little closer.

The one on Shattuck is on the way from BART to First Presby. The one at at Dwight and Telegraph (which is open) is three blocks past there.

Thanks for all of your comments--for lunch I will try Adagio or The Patio (I'll report back if I go, Melanie). For breakfast, though, still undecided. The pastries at Peet's do not strike my fancy--are there any other places within 5 or so blocks to pick up a pastry between 8 and 8:30 on a Saturday?

Thanks, that would be great, hope The Patio still lives. Oh, and don't forget to get gelato at Milano on your way home. It's close to the BART station.

La Note opens at 8am, great pastries. I presume they have takeout.

The breakfast menu looks fabulous--this is just the ticket. Thank you, Robert.

If keep walking down (south) on shattuck there is a small cafe on the East corner of Shattuck and Channing. They have HUGE bearclaws! Highly (maybe too much for my waist line) recommended.
                    Don't know their coffee.
