Lunch at Chez Panisse cafe
Finally, after years, ate there. The verdict, a solid very good lunch.
The first course - a steak and artichoke salad. Very tasty, albeit nothing incredible.
The first course extra - a small pizza w/mushrooms. Very good.
Main course - pan fried chicken breast with slaw. Very good.
Desserts - we shared two (for 3 people). A very good apple/fruit crisp, and a candied orange ice cream w/chocolate sauce. The first thing that came to mind is the dark chocolate-covered candied orange peel at Pierre Marcolini on the Grand Sablon in Brussels, which is one of my favorite sweet treats anywhere.
Wine - Beaujolais day - we each had a glass of the 2 types "by the glass" - both unexceptional, but pleasant. I'd have probably ordered something else but I went along "with the crowd."
Service - very good. Efficient, timed for a nice business lunch (maybe a bit too little time between courses, but not by much).
I left feeling like I had a very nice enjoyable lunch that tasted very good. Nothing more, nothing less.
