The Inn at Phillips Mill: any recent chowhound opinions?

famdoc Nov 16, 2006 09:25 PM

We've been eating at the Inn at Phillips Mill once or twice a year for more than twenty years, but sort of took a break the past two years, finding the food less inspiring and appreciating the ever-increasing choices of fine restaurants in the Lambertville/New Hope/Doylestown vicinity. But, we have been invited there this weekend and wonder whether any chowhounders have been there of late and what their impressions are.

STAY AWAY!! I went there with my wife and two other couples last Saturday night. Before this experience, I had NEVER written a negative review. But I have been pushed into action. In short, the staff is what ruined the experience. The only word that comes to mind is "surly." They definitely treat you like you are a bother and any request (like ordering dessert or coffee) is truly a burden for them. Top it off with average food and above average price and I cannot see any reason to recommend it. There are much better places to stay and/or eat in the New Hope area.

They are a BYOB, but we had to ask several times (4 or 5) to get a bottle of wine opened. Halfway through the meal, I gave up asking and would carry the bottle to corner one of the wait staff to get it opened. It was so bad it was almost funny (think a Saturday Night Live skit). We kept expecting someone to pop out and say "Smile, you're on Candid Camera".
