Best Lemon Cake

I need to get a lemon cake for someone's b-day party in a few weeks.

Any recommendations on where I can get one that won't cost me a fortune and is really good? I'm not really a lemon cake eater so I have no leads.

Thanks!

Vons Markets actually make fairly good cakes. I was extremely impressed with a half-sheet cake that I ordered for a birthday celebration. Not only was the frosting and lemon layer excellent but the cake itself was light and rich like a cake from Hanson's Bakery. You can order any kind of cake you like at any Von's for a decent price. I paid under $35.00 for a three layer 1/2 sheet cake which beats out any privately owned bakery. The picture is the cake I ordered. I asked for pale pink decorations and asked them to write only "Happy Birthday" on the cake. It was gorgeous and tasted great!

I highly recommend the lemon cake at Sweet Lady Jane if you want to really splurge (a full cake costs about $50).

          MIRIAMS' LEMON CAKE

1 Box Duncan Hines Lemon Cake
          3/4 Cup Water
          3/4 Cup Oil
          1 Box Lemon Jello
          4 Eggs

          Combine above ingredients.

          Beat for 4-5 minutes.

          Grease & flour Bundt Pan.

Bake for 50-55 minutes @350 degrees.

Allow cake to cool slightly and remove from pan.

Poke 40-50 holes in top & sides of cake with long toothpick.

Glaze: 1/3 Cup Fresh/Bottled Lemon Juice
          2/3 Cup Powdered Sugar

Mix well. Brush into top and sides of cake.

Wrap well in tin foil & freeze for at least 24 hours.
Slice thin while frozen or defrost and serve. It's always a winner!

Miss Grace is very good, but probably more then $22 a cake. Costco's is moist and acceptable, but to me has a fake lemon taste. I have an easy recipe that you make one day ahead. It calls for a boxed mix, lemon jello and real lemon juice. Let me know if you want it.

Costco has a very good lemon cake, made with real lemon bits in the batter and a lemony topping. Quite large. I think it's $6.99. Got this for a potluck at church and it was gone so fast I didn't have time to save a piece to take home. Excellent moist lemon taste.

I like Miss Grace Lemon Cake, there's a location in Encino.
