Friends came back from SF Ferry Bldg. Farmer's Market with delicious dried kiwi and I was wondering if anyone's seen dried kiwi for sale in the Boston area. I couldn't find anything via google or chowhound search. Much thanks.

  1. Wow this is my stock reply today...and this is a long shot, Jeda, but give Dairy Fresh Candies a buzz. They have a pretty impressive selection of dried fruits but kiwis, I can't swear to it. The thing is, if they don't have something, my experience is they really try to think of someone who does. This is one area were the West Coast kicks our butts...the availability of fresh and dried fruits.

I just called them - they don't carry them - and the man I spoke with said he's "never seen that product." So there goes that. Thanks for the suggestion though!

    2. Okay, plan B...Chinatown.

Try C Market and Chung Wah Hong Co.....It might be best to hunt in person in chinatown, but they do have a great selection of exotic fruits/veggies, so it's worth a try?

Sorry for the bad lead earlier!

Also in Chinatown, possibly the candy place next to Eldo Cake House? I haven't been there in quite a while, but I recall seeing lots of exotic fruit candies and such.

      2. Trader Joe's doesn't have it?

No, I'm pretty sure Trader Joe's doesn't carry dried kiwi... though I'll double check the next time I'm there. I did find the place in California that make the dried kiwi (also dried mandarins, which seem a worthwile investigation), so I'm (somewhat seriously) contemplating the 10 lb $125 bulk order... though I'm guessing I won't be able to fit all that kiwi in my kitchen! I will check out Chinatown - a good excuse to go to the Mei Sum bakery for a banh mi (just read MC Slim JB's article).

Russo's in Watertown has them. I'm eating them right now. :)

I'll bet Plum Produce has it. They make dried everything on-premises.
