Ardbeg Uigedail for the peat lover in you
If you like heavily peated scotch, you must try Ardbeg Uigedail. It is a blast of peat with less of the sweetness found in the Ardbeg traditioanl bottlings. Uigedail is high alcohol content (though it is not labelled cask strength), and has no age statement, meaning that it likely carries some very young (I would guess 5-8 year old) whiskies. In my area (LA) it runs about $75 per bottle.

If I can find it, I will try to get it, although if it cost that much in the states I shudder to think what the price will be in australia

I had it at a tasting a couple of years ago and thought it tasted like charcoal. Not my most favorite scotch ever.

Do you generaly like heavily peated Whiskies Ted?

Thanks for the tip. I found it, and love it, although to me it has a more medicinal taste and less of an earthy taste than the Ardbeg 10yo. Cost $140 a bottle in Australia. So far out of 6 or 7 distilleries Ardbeg has been the pick for my tastes. Next purchase will be a bottle of Caol Illa, then I may try another of the Ardbegs!

Can you compare it to Lagavullin, my favorite peaty scotch?

Anyone tried Ardbeg Supernova? Very peaty I hear.

Very peaty indeed. In fact, one of the three highest peat level Scotches available, but also very young and very expensive. I personally would prefer the Uigedail or some of the other Ardbeg expressions to the Supernova.

I found Uigedail to be a much more powerful taste, more peat and especialy more Iodine on the pallate, but Lagavullin is a much more balanced dram, and probably the best whisky on the nose that I have found.
