Indian Pudding

Can anyone please direct me to a Boston restuarant noted for their Indian Pudding? Thanks in advance.

This is one of my favorite dishes! DURGIN-PARK is the place! I have to admit that any time I tried to make it myself, it failed.

I liked the version at the Fireplace in Brookline.

Think of it as molasses-flavored soft polenta. The recipe is here:

For all of Durgin-Park's talk of authenticity, I'm guessing the Pilgrims didn't put vanilla ice cream on theirs.

I'm not sure if I ever had Indian pudding.. what exactly is it?

I just had a Yankee cut (a "petite" 16oz) of the prime rib for lunch at Durgin-Park the other day, $26, made me wonder how anyone eats the Durgin cut (32 oz). Superb, with good winter squash and mashed potatoes on the side. I got two fine sandwiches out of my leftovers.

My favorite part of the meal was the guy seated across from me, a Brahmin gentleman out of Central Casting: 70-ish, immaculately dressed in a good, well-maintained gray suit he's probably owned since his 20s, blue shirt, perfectly hand-tied red bow tie, Harvard ring. A courtly lunch companion; he appeared to really enjoy his broiled schrod. That was a perfectly Bostonian moment for me.

I was last at Durgin Park a couple months ago, and the place just never changes. That prime rib is freaking great. And though the cornbread isn't great, it takes me back to my childhood, when on a trip to Boston from the Heartland my parents took me to DP and I first fell in love with this city (and swordfish)...so it'll be my favorite cornbread always. (Putting aside Union B&G's yummy skillet of the stuff.)
Anyway, didn't have their pudding then, but I'm sure, like everything else, it's still the same.

my grandmother used always have a can of indian pudding in her cabinet, come to think of it it probably was the same can the whole time....

does anyone remember when Durgin Park had a Stand inside Quincy Market...? I used to get indian pudding there, without having to get a table inside the actual restaurant..if i remember it was in the spot across from where the gelato place still is...

it takes FOREVER to make it per the durgin park recipe.
(can you tell i've done it?!)
theirs IS super, though i haven't been there for 30 yrs.you know, as i recall, there use to be a really decent canned version. don't shoot me. after all it really is just cornmeal molasses mush...
i cannot eat it w/o vanilla ice cream melted on top.

Durgin Park and their Indian Pudding have been there what 100+ years?

I remember watching some travel or cooking show and the guest host learned how they make the Indian Pudding at Durgin Park. Turns out it takes hours of stirring and baking to make the stuff. Maybe some show like Taste of America with that guy Mark DeCarlo?
