I was a huge fan of Sam Mason's dessert tasting at WD-50 and look forward to his new place on Broome. I'm thinking about returning to WD-50 soon, and I'm intigued by the new pastry chef. Bruni interviews him on his blog, and the background at Alinea is promising. Has anyone been? Can you compare him to the other pastry chefs in town?

I too am a fan of Sam's. But if anyone can carry the expectations, it's Alex. I have not had his new stuff @ WD~50, but I did try his stuff when he was still in Alinea earlier this year. It was an awesome experience and I'm sure you'll enjoy them and him.

Can't compare it to Mason's work, but I was there a couple of weeks ago, and I really thought that the desserts were the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, I think I went into the meal with too high expectations of the whole experience, but that's another story...I would go back to WD to sit at the bar and have the desserts, and would definitely tell others to do so.
