Hashigo - Costa Mesa (Oki Doki/Anjin strip mall)
My spies tell me that Hashigo, a brand new Korean tofu stew establishment that will occupy the former Carnivore Grill space adjacent to Oki Doki and Anjin in Costa Mesa, will be open by this Thursday (Nov. 16). It may even open Wednesday.
I passed by late on Sunday night and it looks ready to roll. Only a lone framed piece of art lay flat on a table, awaiting its affixing to a wall.
The menu sports a grand one dozen varieties of tofu stew ($7.00), including Octopus, which will likely be my first choice. For warmer days, many other dishes are available, including Flame Kissed [Grilled] Beef Wraps ($8.50), Korean-style Mackerel (broiled, w/scallions & sesame seeds and green onion soy sauce - $5.00), Omelette Fried Rice ($7.00) and Kimchi Fried Rice ($5.00), Cross Cut Short Ribs (garlic ginger sauce - $10.00), and Beef or Octopus Sizzling Rice Pot ($5.50). Bento-style combos, including one with bulgogi, are also served all day.
Prediction: this place will do o.k., even without relying on the overflow from Oki Doki and Anjin. Seems like an ideal place to go for an early lunch or a late lunch, or a late evening dinner.
