Has anyone been to the Fifth Grill?

The Fifth was a sentimental favorite of mine before it became The Fifth Grill. My friends from Boston loved the slow ride up the Elevator up, the drinks, the dessert and the general ambiance last time we were there about three years ago. Now they'll be back soon and dying to go back. Has anyone been there recently? How's the food? More importantly,how's the ambiance??

  1. J.P. Challet has only recently (less than a month)returned as Executive Chef so keep that in mind when reviewing any postings. Perhaps Fifth is his venue, I was disappointed with the product towards the end of JP's days at Bouchon and from Le Select when he was there.

    1. I ate with four other people at The Fifth back at the end of July. As GTW said, if the chef has changed it wouldn't really be comparing apples to apples if you were to go tonight...then again, it's steak, and there's only only so much artistic license you can take.

      I'd say the atmosphere is like a softer version of a traditional steakhouse: white tablecloths & huge knives, but a pianist and lots of plants. More elegant than, say, Hy's or Morton's, but not uppity.

      1. I'm not sure if I should be posting here but I am going to have dinner at The Fifth Grill and was wondering if wearing a suit is too much. Would a pullover and tie be more fitting? Not sure what to really wear. Any help would be appreciated.
