Christmas Eve in Ft. Lauderdale

We could not get a flight home until Christmas morning, so we'll be in Ft. Lauderdale on Christmas Eve. What is open with a regular menu that might work for two out of towners? At home we usually do the Chinese food and a movie routine.

We're returning from a cruise that morning and will probably just stay at a hotel near the airport.

And thanks to those who replied to my post about dining in Miami already.

You get off the ship the morning of Christmas Eve and you have about 24 hours in Lauderdale before flying home? That's Bonus Vacation Time!!! There is a Hampton Inn at 250 N. Andrews (954) 924-2700 or the Riverside Hotel right on 620 East Las Olas 1-800-325-3280

Fresh off the boat - hit Lester's Diner on SR84 or The Floridian on Las Olas for a hearty breakfast. Then spend the day in Mortal Combat with the last minute holiday shoppers at Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall (open Christmas Eve until 7pm), have dinner at the Oasis Outlet Grand Cafe and see a movie (Matt Damon in "The Good Shepherd") at the Sawgrass multi-plex or shoot pool & drink at Gameworks.

Or post-Floridian, pop over to the multi-plex by the Riverwalk (you can walk from Las Olas) and see a Christmas blockbuster or 2. You can even take a riverboat tour if you didn't get enough boating on your cruise. Have dinner at Johnny V's 625 Las Olas Blvd. and hit a Riverwalk club like Revolution, Dicey's or the Himmarshee afterwards...

    1. I hear that Chef Allen's in Miami beach is nice on Christmas. Haven't been there myself.
