When does blood orange season start?

Louise Nov 13, 2006 03:43 AM

I do love those things, checked in Berkeley Bowl yesterday and saw a good selection of just about every kind of citrus but.

Note, they did have pomelo (forget the price) and Buddha's Hand, large ones, for I think $4 each.

I've seen some of the smaller variety recently at the Santa Rosa Wednesday Farmers' Market, and bought some, but they weren't the best quality. Typical of last-of-season produce.

Make friends with your favorite market's produce manager, and have him/her let you know when the blood oranges come in this next time around.

I just bought a blood orange today at the Civic Center Farmer's Market....at the stall with lots of citrus near the fountain. They were $1.50 per pound I believe....

Dredging up this very old thread. When, exactly, is blood orange season (x month to y month)?

Dale from Lone Oak Farms (Thursday in Berkeley, Sunday in Kensington) said he thinks he may have organic moro blood oranges available in 2-3 weeks.
