If you're talking about Popeye's fried chicken, you're going to get booted over to the chains board.

But, until then, the red beans and rice are STELLAR. A lot of people consider them better than anything you could get at a "real" restaurant.

Spicy is the only way to go. I like the dirty rice and when they have them collard greesn (not bad for a chain but not homemade).

When I do not have time ot cook and there are no leftover than it's Popeye's or Costco Polish for lunch.

Popeye's can be average to bad or great...it depends on the franchise location!!! We have had super greasy (yuck) Popeye's near our house but we discovered a location across town that is OUTSTANDING!! If the place is packed you know it's a good location.

Oh yeah..."gimme a three piece spicy white wit' mashed and a Barq's..." Strange but true: I last ate Popeye's on August 28, 2005, while fleeing Katrina. Haven't been able to eat any since then, not even at Mardi Gras. Sigh. One day, I guess the association will wear off...

It's a mater of personal taste really....I find the Spicy is about spice....so the flavor of chicken is secondary....the mild works for my taste...more balanced....
quality wise the time you go is important...go when there is a natural turnover and the chicken is freshest...lunch or dinner time...otherwise the chicken is sitting under heat lamps dessicating..intensifying salt and spices and turning meat "meally".
Red beans and rice are my chosen sides and I always ask for honey with my biscuit....
So far Popeyes is the best chain chicken I have had (we only have Popeyes, KFC Louisiana, and Churches)

I've been to a lot of popeyes and the quality differs from location to location. Fortunately around VA, we have pretty good locations. Get the spicy dark meat, dirty rice, beans and rice and biscuits. Can't go wrong. You will however get the weeks allotment of grease and salt.

I find their chicken to be average, but their choice of sides is outstanding. Like the other posters on the boards have mentioned, the red beans and rice are a definte winner. I also like their dirty rice, their seasons fries and their onions rings. They probably have other side dishes, but I never make it past these four.
