Cider Doughnuts (Pittsburgh Area)

I grew up in western Massachusetts, and I have fond memories of fall days picking apples in a local orchard (Atkins Farms). What I remember most vividly was dipping a warm-from-the-oven, cakey, sugary cider doughnut into a styrofoam cup of mulled cider. Oh, and then eating it of course!

I have recently discovered that my girlfriend, who grew up in California (where I moved at age 9), has never had a cider donought, let alone dunked one in cider!

Where in western PA can I recreate my childhood memory, and share it with my girlfriend? We live in Pittsburgh, and I'm willing to drive up to an hour.

  1. Too bad you're only willing to drive an hour. Here in the southeastern corner of PA you can get those cider donuts you're describing at Northbrook Orchards in Pocopson Township, a few miles west of West Chester. Get 'em while they're hot!

My kingdom for a freshly fried one!

      2. The lack of good do-nut shops in Pittsburgh has puzzled me for years.
