bad produce from peapod.com
I just got an order of food from peapod today - most if it was pretty acceptable but about half of the produce was AWFUL. Bruised apples, wilted lettuce, old mushrooms, a kinda rotted orange - what gives? Anyone else have similar stories?
FYI the other half of the produce was fine - green beans, sweet potatoes, spinach (in a bag! eep!) what you'd expect and pick for yourself in a "hands-on" grocery.

I learned, long ago, never to order meat or produce from Peapod.
I live in the city, don't have a car and use them to lug the canned, bottled and packaged goods to my place. They do that well.
Frankly, I wouldn't buy produce from a regular supermarket either. I walk to a nearby Whole Foods for these purchases.
In Boston, we have a great organic Produce delivery service called Boston Organics. They are now adding items like coffee, chocolate, maple syrup, bread and such to the mix. Everything is delivered in great condition.
I don't know if services like this are available elsewhere but ask around, perhaps you could find one.
I have a farmers' market in reach every day of the week, June through November, so I shop those all the time.
In season you could also join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program and get a share of produce from a local farm. Here's a site where you can look into that option.
