Taste of Soul Restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn

I noticed this place last week, and decided to give it a try today. It's at 23 Bond St b/w Livingston and Fulton (closer to Livingston) in Downtown Brooklyn.
Anyways, it's pretty much a meat-and-two kind of place - I had the Thursday special, which was ginger-glazed pork chops. For $7.99, I got tow decent sized boneless pork chops, mac-and-cheese, collard greens, and corn bread.
The pork was very tasty, though a little cloying and a tad dry. It could easily be a guilty pleasure. The mac-and-cheese were of the "chunky" kind, for a lack of a better descriptor - you know, when the cheese doesn't as much melt as curd together. (Not to be confused with clumping or melting together.) Anyways, it was very tasty, and I like this kind of mac and cheese every once in a while. The collards were also very good and had either smoked ham or smoked turkey in them - I turned down a hunk of the stuff that was offered to me thinking it was going to be a pork overload. The cornbread was sweet, almost cake like, but did a good job sopping up the sauce from the pork chops and collard juices.
Not the best soul food I've had, but certainly the best I've had in Brooklyn so far. (That's not saying much.) I'll definitely go back to try other dishes. The people that work there are incredibly friendly - I got called "honey" about a dozen times while I was there, as did everyone else. It seemed sincere, though, not an act. It was a refreshing respite from the general dislike of the customer usually displayed at most Downtown Brooklyn eateries.
Have you been over to Ruthie's yet, on DeKalb roughly across from the hospital? From your description of this meal, Ruthies is a good bit better.
I have not been to Ruthie's, yet. However, this is a welcome addition to the Downtown Brooklyn dining scene. I'll try to make it to Ruthie's as soon as my pork:blood ratio has diminished.
