Good, Cheap Sushi, Midtown West

ljm2118 Nov 9, 2006 02:36 PM

I'm seeking good-- but even more importantly, cheap-- sushi, in midtown on the west side. Preferably in the 30's or 40's. Thanks all

Pearl on the Sushi is decent, only had takeout. It's on 47th and 9th.

Cafe Yagura on 41 St. bet. Mad and Fifth Avenue has pretty decent packaged sushi and also some to order sushi. It is inexpensive and I like their packaged sushi better than some of the others.

Try Go Sushi. I've only been to the one in the Village, but they've got another place on Third between 34th and 35th and one at 9th Ave and 51st. Not exactly within your area parameters, but they're quite good and quite cheap.

I find Go Sushi pretty frightening and would never get raw fish there.

Lately I've been ordering delivery through seamlessweb from Kimi Sushi, on 33rd between 3rd and Lex, and I've been quite happy with them. Again, not exactly the 'hood you're looking for, but close, and they deliver to the west side.

There is no such thing as good cheap sushi. You get what you pay for.

Agreed. Now can anybody recommend some good cheap foie gras?

Mono Prix anywhere in Paris. You can get fabulous tinned foie gras. Its sublime. Its around 8 euros for a little tin. Well worth it and cheap!

I agree that you get what you pay for (to a certain extent), but not that there is no such thing as good cheap (or at least cheaper) sushi. I don't imagine you eat at Masa everytime you eat sushi, do you?

Marumi lunch special is easily the best sushi at the best price (like, $11). It's by NYU, however, not midtown. But there is such a thing as good, reasonably priced sushi.

Go sushi is awful. You can get decent, reasonably priced sushi at East on W. 55. Nothing special, but decent. Same block as Sugiyama & Yakitori Toto.

Co Co Sushi on W 26th bet 6th and 7th has all you can eat sushi dinners for $23. I thought the sushi was great. The salmon was like butter. Also have all you can drink saki offer too.

or can try the sushi buffet in Korea-town. Minado is closed but I think there is another one called Arang. I have never been there though imagine that it is very cheap.

Believe it or not, Sushi-a-go-go (near Lincoln center in the 60s) has occasionally had good sushi. It seems to be pretty much luck of the draw there, and isn't consistently good on a certain day of the week or anything, but it might be worth checking out.

If you want cheap, good sushi, the best bet might be to make your own.
