Tasty and fun Moroccan or Middle Eastern on the LES?

For a small birthday gathering this weekend. Not terribly pricey. Thanks!

Not on LES but near - L'Orange Bleue can be a lot of fun for birthdays. The food is decent and it is a VERY lively atmosphere (NB might be too loud, depending on what you're looking for).

Cafe Mogador is one of my fav places in the east village
the service is right on, the food is consistent and always good
the chicken charmulla (don't know if I spelled this right) is spicy and so great
the best hummas in the hood

Zerza has a really nice table in the front of the window with pillows and curtains - if your group is around 8, see if you can reserve it. would be great for a party and Zerza is reasonably priced and good. 6th between 1st and 2nd

I second Moustache. Their chicken is nicely marinated and grilled and smokey over a lovely lentil puree. Their hummous is my favorite in the city. Their fresh breads are simple but great, soft and chewy. Also fantastic fresh tabbouleh.

Nomad on 2nd between 4th and 5th is a good option. Very good food at reasonable prices, and several middle eastern wines that are dirt cheap and not bad at all.

Cafe Mogador on St. Marks may fit the bill. Especially if you stick with kebabs and appetizers like hummous. Not expensive either...entrees around $12-$15 if I remember correctly. A bottle of wine was not outrageously priced either. Seem to recall around $20 (which is great compared to Philly). They don't take reservations but it is not unpleasant to wait at the bar.
