I've lived in LA my whole life and I'm always eating in San Gabriel Valley. I've heard there are some really and I mean really great restaurants hidden in these areas. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any?

My usual places are MPV or NBC or Newport. I've recently discovered New concept and Fantasy Eatery which are great. Can anyone suggest any other places that's to die for in this area?

Both Golden Deli (same mall as Newport) and its sister Vietnam House (catty-cornered across the street) are worth a trip - we're taking a Nashville friend to Vietnam House tomorrow night, and will probably get the 7-course beef dinner, which is always fun. We usually go to 888 on Valley in Rosemead for dim sum, but as we've never been there for dinner I can't say how good it is as a seafood restaurant. And up until recently Tung Lai Shun was a great place for Chinese Islamic food; it's been turned into something else that's reportedly not worth visiting, but there's another place with that cuisine that's gotten good reviews - I assume someone will jump in here with recs and specs...?

Can you be more specific as to the type of cuisine you are looking for?

If not, this previous thread about a very chowhound-ish teacher from SF should be a pretty good roadmap.
