need restaurant with view of downtown
I am taking my Mom out to dinner for her 92nd B-day but have not lived in Chicago for over 30 years. She loves downtown, and I would really like to take her for someplace that has a great view of the city at night (also a good wine list & food). Any suggestions?
The first thing that springs to mind is the Signature Room in the Hancock building. The view is beautiful. I haven't been there for many years, but I remember enjoying the food.
If your Mom can handle multiple locations, you could also go up to the signature room for a drink, and then to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
The view from the signature room is hands down the best in all of Chicago. Unfortunately, the food doesn't come close to measuring up. Spiaggia has a nice view though (without giving you altitude sickness)and is a top-notch restaurant. I would go with SuzMiCo's suggestion of just heading up to the Bar on the floor above the Signature room for a drink and going somewhere else nearby to eat.
On a personal note... I noticed your username. Did you by any chance used to live in Glen Ellyn 30 years ago??
NoMI at the Park Hyatt has a beautiful view, especially at holiday time (and the food is infinitely better than the Signature Room). Since it's only 10 stories or so above the Avenue, the view is much different than from the Hancock. But I definitely suggest going to the bar at the Hancock before or after dinner.
You may want to consider Everest. I went the for my 10th Anniversary and I have to say it was the best meal of my life. We had the degustation (Many Small Courses paired with different wines) it was the stuff dreams are made of.
Excellent View of the City and Very Elegant
