Taralucci e Vino - Quick Report

We dined at Taralucci e Vino last night. We had been here before for a quick glass of wine and snack (vitello tonatto) and we really like the laid-back vibe and excellent wine list (not to mention the superb coffee). The location (on 18th just off Union Square) is also very convenient.

Last night our group of 4 shared a number of dishes, including: wild boar prosciutto (very nice), salumi, beet and arugula salad (perfectly dressed), pasta with duck sauce (excellent), gnocchi (the creamy sauce with pancetta was like dessert), braised pork belly (the fig sauce was a little too much). The highlight of the meal was a fried lamb chop - it was really outstanding. I would go back just for that. Desserts were not all that impressive (I didn't like the orange mousse), but I thought the pumpkin gelato was tasty.

We will definitely go back.

  1. Which Tarallucci e Vino did you go to?

I visited the one off of 18th and 5th today for lunch. Service was very nice and attentive, the paninis were good, as was the pain au chocolat.

BUT I noticed everyone around me (except for me) being brought olive oil and bread after ordering. This went on for about fifteen minutes. Finally, I gave up and asked for it. Seems strange to me.

    1. it's odd that the desserts weren't good. the branch on 10th st and 1st ave excels in that department.
