looking for somewhere for a late-ish Friday night dinner. Casual, but with some attention to detail.

North Street Grill in the North End might fit the bill. Dark, cozy, talented chef doing very accessible but still interesting American dishes.

I agree. Chez Henri would be a great option. The Ashmont Grill in Dorchester might be another good one, though it's a bit more lively and quirky than 75 Chestnut.

Having just returned from an early dinner at Chez Henri I can't say enough good things about dinner in their bar. The Cubano sandwich was, as always, wonderful. Cocktails were well-made and the service was fantastic. Only probelem on a Friday might be the wait, depending on when you go.
