Another rant re. auction madness...

A few days ago I posted a rant re. auction madness.
http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/...

Among other things I said:

"Just to quote a classic: a 1982 Mouton Rothschild has gone from the mid $400s to close to $1000 since 2003, that's about 50% per year for the last 3 years."

Well, guess what?

In next Nov 18th NYC Sotheby's auction, lot 150: 50 cases (yes, CASES, that is, 600 bottles) of 1982 Mouton have estimates $600K to 1.2 mil. That is... from $1000 to $2000 per bottle. (And these are -obviously- "wholesale" estimates...

)

It turned out, then, my previous estimates were way off.
Sorry, guys, for the inconvenience.

  1. I guess I need to get one of them fancy high-payin' jobs so I can get into the wine auction purchase business.

    If I were rich I'd buy all that overpriced wine and mix it with coke.

    That's what I'd do.
