Good Pho in the Tenderloin?

Extra points for being close to Larkin/Sutter.

TIA

  1. Turtle Tower. The best, IMO. Larkin & Eddy.

    1. Turtle Tower has been packed the last two times I have been down to the 'loin.

I would expect Pagolac to have good Pho, if on the menu. I usually like everything there- Ellis and Larkin.

I have only tasted the chicken pho (pho gai?) at Pagolac, but it was very good, and pho is on the menu. I have not yet been to Turtle Tower so I have no comparison.

      2. My personal favourite is Pho Hoa on 431 Jones Street. Perfectly seasoned soup, tender meats and excellent trimmings. Been around for a long time and still the best.

i like pho hoa too. it's my fave since "pacific" closed years ago.

        2. I like Turtle Tower a lot, especially the wider and softer rice noodle that they use there. A nice departure from the thin rice noodle that's the standard here.

          1. I also like the pho ga with unborn eggs at Hung Ky. When I'm in the Tenderloin and craving chicken soup, it's kind of a toss up between Hung Ky and Turtle Tower for me. The stock at the two are quite similar, as well as the steamed free-range bird. At Turtle Tower, the fresh rice noodles give it an edge, whereas, the giblets and unborn eggs at Hung Ky call me some times.

The worldly palate of MW trumps again. I'm a culinary two year old, and there are some things I just cannot do.

Thanks for making me feel old and decrepit. (vbg)

So, when does P. Punko unmask?

I second Hung Ky. I actually find the noodles to be very similar to TT, but the broth better. AND-- it has the added benefit of herbs and sprouts! Another plus, it's definitely less crowded than TT...

Glad you liked it. Should be noted that Hung Ky closes even earlier than Turtle Tower does, I think.
