Long time lurker, first time poster!

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a place for me to rent a pig spit. I'm having a rather large party at my house between Christmas and New Years this year and a Roast pig is on the menu.

Does anyone know a good reasonable place to get one in the GTA?

I'm not sure this will work in the GTA winter, but you could give this a try:

Having done several pig roasts on borrowed equipment ranging from a full on pig cooker to a cobbled togeether assemblage of bicycle wheels and bricks...I have yet been able to find a rental unit in town. However, all is not lost! If you are willing to drive a bit, these folks have exactly what you are looking for....

Looking at a 60-70 lb. pig. 30 people or so.

        Thanks for the help!

That's a lot of pig for 30 people. I've done 5 pig roasts and I usually plan for 1-1.5lb of raw weight per person and I still get leftovers everytime. Things to consider: Mostly men or women? Any side dishes?

          Hope it goes well.

Thanks for the concern. 8 of my CLOSEST friends are chefs, let's just say.....ummm we can eat.

The 8 of us are capable of eating at least twice the amount a regulare person can....not to mention we always crack out the left-over late night with some beers.

Last year we JUST had enough...Late night came and we ordered pizza. NOT THIS YEAR!

Most of the large party rental places have roasters that you can rent. They'll cost you around $150-200. HOw big is your pig? Last summer I rented a really good one in peterborough if you're willing to drive that far. The ones there all have trailer hitches. I think it was $200 but that includes the gas. MY pig was 120lb but you can fit up to 200+lb

Here's a video of the one I rented:

My friend rented one from the gas company (yes, I'm serious) to do a lamb. Maybe check out Consumer's Gas' website?
